About Track My Valuables

We would like to personally thank you for your interest in www.trackmyvaluables.com (or TMV as we like to call it).  We would like to take the time to tell you the story of how and why TMV was created.

One day, Rawland was in an ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) professional development course that was talking about Configuration Management and Configuration Items.  Then Rawland started thinking about his own personal assets and what would happen if his house and high value items were lost in a fire or other disaster.

The thoughts were not good.  Rawland tried, but could not put together a list of his high value items off the top of his head.  Nor did he know if he could even find the receipts for his high value items to submit an insurance claim that accurately reflected the damages received.  Then Rawland thought about his organization’s configuration management database based on ITIL and the resulting ability to document and track all of the organization’s assets.  Finally Rawland had the thought, “I do this kind of stuff everyday at work, but how can I implement this in my own personal life to protect my own stuff?”

Rawland started to get frustrated after several unfruitful Internet searches to find a personal online asset management database.  The closest solutions he could find were geared towards IT companies at the enterprise level.  Additionally, the solutions were only applications that had to be installed on a local database server.  What good is a local installation if the local facility and servers are destroyed?

At a barbeque in August of 2007, Rawland then decided to pitch the idea for a new web service to Chris.  The new service would provide an online asset management database that allows users to document, organize and track your high value items along with their related receipts and documents to assist in damage recovery in the event of loss, theft, fire, flood or other disasters.  As added benefits, TMV would also provide users with:

  • The total purchase price and current depreciated value of all your high value items
  • The ability to upload 2 pictures for each item
  • An easy to use workflow
  • Customizable descriptions of your own items
  • Categories for your items
  • The ability to Refer-A-Friend and get 3 free months to your current subscription when they sign up.

Rawland and Chris quickly reached a gentleman’s agreement to start TMV and the rest is history.

Now that you know how and why TMV was started, we would like to list some of our combined experiences that have been slightly adapted to make TMV a valuable tool for any household.

  • Possess ITIL and Project Management Certifications
  • Implemented multiple configuration management databases
  • Wrote contingency plans and lead contingency exercises for an organization located in a Post 9/11 Pentagon
  • Supervised multiple Service Desks and Network Operation Centers
  • Performed Information Assurance and Security Management for the Department of Defense

Once again, we would like to thank you for supporting TMV and hope you enjoy the service we provide.  We would love to hear any of your comments or suggestions.

Please e-mail us with your feedback to help@trackmyvaluables.com

Your patronage is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

The TMV Co-Founders:
